1881年頃から83年に成った草稿があったといわれており、続帝国文庫《白縫譚》に翻刻されている（柳亭種彦、柳水亭種清の合作）

画については、歌川豊国、歌川国貞らの作である。

STORY

白縫譚とは・・・

戦国時代、豊後の城主であり、キリシタンであった大名、大友宗麟（Sourin Otomo）の

娘、若菜姫（princess Wakana）が大友家を滅ぼした者たちへ復讐をする物語。

若菜姫は蜘蛛の妖術を得意とする美しい人物であり、その呪術により土蜘蛛を召喚した

こともあるとされている。

筑紫を舞台に、江戸時代初期に起きた筑前国黒田家のお家騒動や天草の乱などの史実を

取り交ぜた長編小説であり、変幻自在の妖術と御家再興、九州平定を誓う若菜姫の

活躍が描かれている。

歌舞伎の題材としても人気であり、怪奇物のいわばベストセラー小説ともいえる。

※《不知火物語》《白縫物語》と記されることもあり、全90編とかなりの長編としても

　有名な作品。
